When Kira showed up to Civic Center Park in downtown Denver, she was ready for a photoshoot. She had on a stunning pink sequin gown, her hair was done, and she was fully in model mode — completely in her element, completely unsuspecting.
What she didn't know was that Eddie had been quietly planning something behind the scenes for weeks.
He had reached out to me beforehand to work out every detail. We kept it simple: a modeling session as the cover, a moment in the middle of it as the stage. All Kira had to do was show up and be herself. Eddie just had to hold it together long enough to get through the words.
Spoiler: he didn't quite make it.
The session started like any other, Kira moving naturally through the park, the late light catching the sequins on her gown, the park's gorgeous architecture as our backdrop. Civic Center Park has this wonderful energy to it, grand but approachable, and it suited her perfectly.
And then Eddie stepped in.
I watched him get down on one knee, and I watched the exact moment Kira realized what was happening. That split second where confusion becomes recognition becomes pure, overwhelming joy — I will never get tired of photographing that moment. Her face just lit up. She started glowing in a way that had nothing to do with the sequins.
And Eddie? He cried. This man who had held it together through all the planning, all the secrecy, all the anticipation, became overwhelmed in the best possible way the moment she said yes. It was so genuinely sweet that I thought, what the heck? I'll cry too!
These are the sessions I live for. Not just because of the beautiful light or the stunning location or the fact that Kira's gown was made for golden hour, but because of the realness of it. The way joy looks when it's completely unscripted. The way love shows up when someone isn't performing it, but just feeling it.
Kira and Eddie, thank you for letting me be your secret keeper for a little while. Congratulations! I cannot wait to see what comes next for you two.
