Chautauqua Park is pretty much a perfect spot for a Boulder engagement session. You simply cannot beat the views of the Flatirons, and if you time it just right, you get the most gorgeous fields of wildflowers as your backdrop. Lucky for us, that's exactly what we got for Casey and Seth's session. And it was pure magic.
As a Boulder engagement photographer, Chautauqua is one of my all-time favorite locations to recommend to couples. It has everything! Dramatic mountain scenery, open meadows, golden light that just pours through the Flatirons at sunset. Whether you're a Colorado local or coming from out of town, it photographs beautifully in every season and never gets old.
Casey and Seth were so much fun to work with. They were SO natural in front of the camera, I hardly had to coach them at all! And honestly, that is not as common as you might think. Being in front of a camera is genuinely tough, and it can make even the most confident people feel awkward and self-conscious. It's one of the things I'm most passionate about as a photographer: helping couples get out of their heads and just be present with each other.
My approach with every engagement session, whether it's at Chautauqua, Wonderland Lake, or anywhere else in Colorado, is to keep things feeling relaxed and low-pressure. I'm not just snapping pics, I'm paying attention to the in-between moments. The way you laugh at each other's jokes. The way one of you reaches for the other's hand without thinking about it. Those are the moments I'm always chasing, because those are the ones that actually look and feel like you. I'll give you gentle direction to get you started, but my biggest goal is always to capture the real emotions you feel for each other, not a performance of them.
Casey and Seth made that so easy. From the very first frame they were relaxed, playful, and completely themselves and it shows in every single photo. I am so excited for their wedding this November and cannot wait to see these two say I do!
